Timeline of Dr.'s Appointments For My Triplet Pregnancy

Timeline of appointments First appointment at 7 weeks 5 days, found out we had three heartbeats! Second appointment at 11 weeks (last appointment at regular OB), confirmed there were still three and saw them dance around on the ultrasound. Third appointment at a 12 weeks and a few days, first one with new high risk doctor of maternal fetal medicine, screening for down syndrome. Entire second trimester I would see the doctor once every two weeks, we would have an ultrasound at each appointment. At my fourth appointment, at 15 weeks we found out we were having 3 girls! At 20 weeks we did our big ultrasound with anatomy scans on all the babies. It lasted over 3 hours and I almost passed out few times from laying on my back so long. At 22 weeks we took a tour of the NICU so we would prepared and informed if I went into labor early. At 24 weeks I stopped working and started physical therapy for my assortment of aches and pains. At around 25 weeks I had my glucose

My Triplet C-Section

Image
My c-section was scheduled on August 31, 2016 at 35 weeks. I don’t think Jon or I slept for a week leading up to delivery day, and we both definitely didn’t sleep the night before. We just laid in bed anticipating what the birth of our daughters would be like. I finally lugged my 210 pound self into the shower and got ready, which took over an hour at this point because I got so winded and tired. We sat around not really sure what to do with ourselves, just waiting to leave. We spent some time taking a few pictures of my giant belly. I remember being mad we couldn’t get a picture where it looked as big as I felt. The pictures truly do not do it justice. I remember feeling so incredibly proud to walk all on my own into the hospital and announce I was there to have my three babies. I never thought I would make it as far as I did. After we arrived I put on the infamous gown and they began monitoring the babies hearts. It was probably an hour of Jon and I just hanging out in the r

Hospital Bag For A Triplet C-Section

Here is what I packed in my hospital bag that I found to be the most important. I was always worried about going into labor so I had my bag packed at around 25 weeks. Maternity clothes. I brought all of my maternity stretchy comfy yoga pants and tanks. I had hot flashes and the NICU rooms are kept super warm so I was constantly sweaty and hot. It was nice to have tanks that I could pull down for nursing and I brought a sweater if I got cold. Slippers or big shoes in case your feet swell. Also socks, I took my shoes off a lot in the NICU and propped them up and just wore socks. Nursing bras and breast pads. I struggled finding nursing bras that fit because my rib cage was so swollen from my pregnancy and no regular bras fit. Here are my favorite ones from amazon that fit and didn’t cost a fortune.   https://www.amazon.com/Lightly-Wirefree-Maternity-Breastfeeding-Pink-Black-Beige/dp/B01EFNPD7W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485635322&sr=8-1&keywords=nursing+bras

When Two Became FIVE: Finding Out There Were THREE!

Finding out I was pregnant was a moment I had been excited for since Jon and I got married. We always knew we wanted to start a family, the question was always when? After we bought our first house and Jon had settled into a career teaching we talked about starting a family. We had decided to wait a few years, you know, make sure the time is right. Little did we know it would only be a few months... I found out I was pregnant on February 3rd, after taking 3 pregnancy tests (foreshadowing?). It was so surreal to me knowing there was a tiny human life beginning to form in my belly. I would just look down unable to comprehend the complexity of growing a brand new life. I could not wait for the first ultrasound, to hear our baby's heart beating, to have some sort of confirmation other than a little stick telling me I was in fact pregnant. The day of our appointment I was overcome with anxiety, wondering if the baby would be okay, if there would actually be a baby,  I was ready

What Makes Having Triplets Hard?

This trippin' ain’t easy. I am pretty sure I have aged ten times as fast since the girls were born. I just found my first grey hair, I mean really grey… And now my beauty routine involves multiple anti aging and stretch mark creams. But these things are trivial compared to what is actually hard about having triplets. I prepared as best I could from the moment we found out there were three. I was bracing myself, researching, lining up help and doing the best I could to be ready for when the trio made their appearance. Not surprisingly, like everything else I thought I had prepared for, what makes having triplets hard, is so incredibly different from what I thought it would be. I thought the amount of work, diapers, crying, and general care of three newborns would be exhausting. Don’t get me wrong, it totally is, but I had mentally prepared for this. What makes having triplets hard has surprised me and they are things that I had not thought of. So here is what I find to be the harde
